Is embalming required if you are going to be cremated?
No. In regards to cremation, embalming is only required if a viewing is to take place prior to the cremation. That being said, it is not manditory to have the deceased embalmed for a basic viewing. Embalming is highly recommended for viewings as the procedure results in the deceased being cleaner and more presentable to family members & friends. Many times the deceased's body will be present at the funeral service with cremation taking place afterwards. In this instance embalming is also highly recommended.
